Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) is named in recognition of the legendary Huang Di, who was the reputed ancestor of the Chinese people and made magic pills for immortality here in Huangshan.
There is a Chinese saying: 五岳归来不看山,黄山归来不看岳.
Wu Yue (五岳) is the collective name given to China's most important mountains, namely Mount Taishan in Shandong Province, Mount Huashan in Shaanxi Province, Mount Hengshan in Shanxi Province, Mount Songshan in Henan Province and Mount Hengshan in Hunan Province. It is said that you won't want to visit any other mountains after seeing Wu Yue, but you won't wish to see even Wu Yue after returning from Huangshan. This may give you some ideas of the beauty and uniqueness of Huangshan.

Hi!
ReplyDeleteI have stumbled upon your website from Trip Advisor on the Haungshan Trip Report. On looking your site, it's great! I had planned a trip to China but unfortunately, it had fell through (couldn't get my Visa out in time). Thanks for sharing your photos. :-)
I am curious, why did you pick the season that you did to go?
Cheers,
Wendy
Hi Wendy,
ReplyDeleteNo particular reason for going during winter. Just happen to take leave during that period. =)
