My overnight train from Lanzhou to Jiayuguan

Morning sunrise from train across the desert

Arriving at Jiayuguan train station early in the morning

Numerous camel figurines along one of the road, as camels are important symbol of the Silk Road

Rented a bike and went to Jiayuguan Pass, the first pass at the western end of the Great Wall of China

Approaching Jiayuguan walls

Snow-capped Qilian Shan faraway

Entrance of Jiayuguan

Views from within the walls

Knocking this rock with small stones amazingly produces sound of a crying swallow

Generals planning the defence of the fort

You can have a go at these targets to test your archery skills

One of the entrance through the walls

You can do camel riding here too to have a taste of the Gobi Desert

This is the main pass, from which you will reach the Gobi Desert upon exit

Stretch of the still standing narrow strip of the Great Wall running all the way towards Qilian Shan

Men to the right! Horses to the left!

Wonderful view of the pass

Numerous buildings within the fortress itself

Entrance to the small museum

Very beautiful painting of Jiayuguan Pass

When merchants from the west meet the east

Map of the Silk Road

Weapon artefacts

Model of Jiayuguan Pass

Cycling along the highway that cut across the Gobi Desert

With my China Lonely Planet! =p

Recently restored Overhanging Great Wall

Built among some very treacherous terrains

View of an oasis within the Gobi Desert

Typical Chinese door with couplet by the sides

Little section of the western edge of the Great Wall

Railway cutting through the desert

First fire tower of the Great Wall, that marks the beginning of the western section of the Ming Great Wall

Here comes the train

Cycling through the Gobi Desert is really strenuous, under these extreme conditions

Jiayuguan seen from afar

Back to Jiayuguan train station to take my overnight train to Dunhuang
